This Week's Direction
What Are You Willing to Dive Toward?
This week’s podcast guest was so inspiring and she really got me thinking about my love of marine life and SCUBA diving.
SCUBA diving.
Kent and I became certified around 2010, and we've had the incredible fortune of diving in some beautiful places around the world—including Greece and the Maldives.
I love being underwater. The quiet. The weightlessness. The feeling of entering an entirely different world. And, of course, the marine life.
So then, the question becomes.....why haven't I been diving lately?
Well...I have a list.
Equipment. I no longer own what I need.
Cold. Southern California water is cold. And apparently, my desire to SCUBA has a direct correlation with water temperature!
Fear. It's been a while. Any comfort I developed seems to have faded....
Timing. Maybe I'll wait until our daughter is older.
Pretty reasonable, right?
Except when I really looked at those reasons, I realized something.
They're not exactly reasons.
They're obstacles.
And obstacles are different.
Because obstacles can be worked with.
I can budget for equipment and plan for it. I don't have to dive tomorrow.
I can address the cold. The marine life isn't going anywhere, and perhaps I get to decide that experiencing it is worth wearing a thicker wetsuit.
I can address the fear. I can find a guide. Get re-certified. Take a refresher course. Learn what's changed with equipment and techniques since I was last in the water.
And timing?
We know families who dive with children our daughter's age.
If I want her to grow up curious about the things she loves, maybe part of that is showing her that the adults in her life have things they love, too.
That we have interests.
That we get scared.
That we learn.
That we try again.
So now I'm sitting with a different question:
What am I willing to challenge, face, and overcome to make room for the things that bring me alive?
And SCUBA isn't the only answer I'm finding.
I've been craving photography again, too. It's been a while since I've picked up my camera and really immersed myself in learning and creating.
There are things calling for my attention.
And perhaps the question isn't:
"Do I have time for this?"
Maybe it's:
"What am I willing to say no to - or give up - to create space for this?"
That's my inquiry this season. What do I want AND what am I willing to change to make room for it?
Sometimes the things that bring us the most alive are sitting just beyond the edge of the story we've been telling ourselves about why we can't.
With Gratitude,
Michelle

Collecting Crazy Experiences with Irina
What if the best way to measure a life isn't by the things we own—but by the experiences we've collected?
This week on the Frenchitivity Podcast, we sit down with travel creator and visual storyteller Irina, a self-proclaimed "Professional Collector of Crazy Experiences," whose adventures have taken her to more than 30 countries.

🧭Compass Shift
This week's reflection:
Think of one thing you've been wanting to do, experience, learn, or return to.
Now ask yourself:
What's actually stopping me?
Write down the reasons.
Then, next to each one, ask:
Is this a true limitation? Or, is this an obstacle I could work with?
You don't have to solve it this week.
Just get curious.
And then ask:
What would I be willing to say no to in order to make room for this?
Sometimes creating more possibility begins with making space.
✨ Closing
Thank you for being here.
We're grateful to be sharing this journey with you.
