🧭 The Weekly Compass
A weekly dose of possibility and grounded action from Michelle & Kent of the Frenchitivity Family
✨ Opening Quote
“Preparation isn't about eliminating uncertainty. It's about creating enough peace of mind to move forward anyway.”

Preparation Creates Possibility
When we tell people that we traveled around the world with our daughter for 10 months, we get asked about all kinds of things.
Where was your favorite place?
How did you decide where to go?
What did you pack?
How did you handle school?
But eventually, we usually get to one of the questions sitting underneath all of those:
What did you do about health insurance?
It's not nearly as fun to talk about as where we stayed in Thailand—but it's a very real question.
And I understand why.
Before we left, there were so many unknowns.
What if someone got sick?
What if we needed a doctor in a country where we didn't speak the language?
What if there was an emergency?
What if...?
We couldn't possibly prepare for every scenario.
And, interestingly, that was never really the goal.
The goal was to prepare enough that the uncertainty didn't get to make the decision for us.
As we researched, we discovered that there are insurance options specifically designed for long-term travelers, families, digital nomads, and people living abroad. Companies like SafetyWing, IMG, Allianz and GeoBlue all offer different types of coverage.
We were trying to understand our family's needs.
What coverage mattered to us?
What risks were we comfortable carrying?
What would give us enough peace of mind to step onto that first flight?
And I've been thinking about that word lately:
Preparation.
Sometimes preparation can sound like the opposite of adventure.
Plan everything. Anticipate everything. Remove all the risk.
But our experience was almost the opposite.
Preparation created freedom.
Knowing we had insurance.
Understanding our budget.
Having a plan for Everly's education.
None of those things guaranteed that everything would go according to plan.
Trust me—it didn't.
But they created enough of a foundation that the unknown could begin to feel exciting instead of paralyzing.
And maybe that applies far beyond travel.
There may be something you've been thinking about doing that still feels a little too uncertain.
A trip.
A career change.
A creative project.
Something completely different.
I'm wondering what happens when, instead of asking:
"How could I possibly do that?"
we ask:
"What would I need to know to feel comfortable taking the next step?"
We don't have to answer every question.
We don't have to eliminate every risk.
Sometimes we just need enough information to turn fear into curiosity...
and curiosity into possibility.
With Gratitude,
Michelle

🧭Compass Shift
This week's reflection:
Think of something you’ve been wanting to do that still feels a little too uncertain.
Instead of asking:
“How could I possibly do that?”
Try asking:
“What would I need to know to feel comfortable taking the next step?”
You don’t need the whole plan today.
Maybe you just need to uncover one question that’s standing between you and possibility.
Start there.
✨ Closing
Thank you for being here.
We're grateful to be sharing this journey with you.
